Tours Page Overview

Operating Sessions

We will have several layouts available for “Operation Sessions” on Thursday evening for early arrivals. Registered conventioneers will actually perform operations at a model railroad rather than just visit to visit the model railroad – in fact this will be a “working” tour. Your operating host will expect you to complete your “turn”.

Layout Tours

Our regular layout tour will be self guided, and will consist of several clubs in the area, plus some of the finest private layouts in the NMRA, for your viewing pleasure. Clubs open for your pleasure include Columbus Model Railroad Club, a founding club of the NMRA, Central Ohio N Track, Columbus Area N-Scalers, Central Ohio S Gaugers, and Central Ohio O Scale Engineers. The Zanesville Railroad Club and the Coshocton Railroad Club, will also be open for those traveling east. For those traveling north, John Stuber’s N&W and Dean Freytag’s South Ridge Lines will be available. Howard Smith’s B&O, Dick Briggs’ PRR, Gerri Dobelin’s Unprototype and Scenyked Harbor Railroad, Chris Walsh’s PRR, Charlie Elkins’ GTW, Darrell Logans’ CD&L layout are just a few examples of the layouts that will be available for viewing and touring pleasure.

Currently, we have over forty (40) layout hosts that have agreed to be available for conventioneers to visit. Some of the layouts will be open during convention hours to provide conventioneers an alternative to attending clinics. We are also working on locations of some garden layouts that would be available for viewing.

Prototype Tours

We are working on a shop tour of the Ohio Central facilities. We have contacted Norfolk Southern and CSX for possible tours of their facilities. Naturally, they are all concerned about liability insurance and we are working on the problem.

And, of course we will have a realm of prototype railroad operations, including Marion Union Station and Railfan Trip, and a ride on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad.

Are you interested in flight safety? If so choose the Flight Safety Tour, and visit a training center, where pilots receive their training.
